The History of the AR World Championship

Switzerland 2001

The first AR World Championship was held in Switzerland in 2001. It became one of the hardest races ever with the high elevation, the cold and the rainy weather that made it difficult for every competitor.

The first AR World champions was won by the "flying Finns" of Nokia Adventure.

Canada, New Foundland 2004

After a couple of years without a World Championship event the second one was staged in New Foundland. This race was characterised by its high speed, a huge first section of running and an amazing scenery.

The "Super team" of Nike ACG/Balance Bar won this second World Championship by an arms length.

New Zealand, Westport 2005

The 2005 AR World Championship was held in the Buller region of the West Coast of New Zealand.

It was a race for teams with good navigators in thick bush. A hard race that started with 54 teams and ended with 8 finishing teams. This became one of the hardest race in history.

Winners of this AR World Championship was Balance Vector from New Zealand.
